And now, as Gaza enters a level 5 famine, 2 million people are threatened with malnutrition and anemia, mostly children. Meanwhile thousands of trucks wait just on the other side of the closed border crossings, enough to immediately relieve the suffering, yet the occupation refuses their entry.
The Sameer Project believes in returning agency to the people of Gaza, we believe in community support and in fostering self-reliance. The Translating Falasteen (@translating_falasteen)x The Sameer Project North campaign recently partnered with Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (@apnorg) to support various farms across Beit Lahia in providing home grown vegetables for Gaza. With our help they are growing eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, and pumpkin to supply sustenance for their community.
Our team purchased the seedlings that farmers then transfer into the soil. We purchased enough to cultivate 10 donoms of land in Beit Lahia at $1,000 per donom. The vegetables take 25-30 days to grow in an area that needs it the most due to aggressive bombings and the destruction caused by the occupation.
Our partners at APN provide their expertise in the planting process, advising what seeds grow best in what soil, and assisting the farmers along the way until the vegetables are ready to harvest. The farmers then sell the vegetables at a fair price, creating the ability to support their own families as well as provide food at reasonable prices for the community around them.
The more farmers we support and the more they produce, the lower the price of vegetables will be generally in the market. Support us in funding more farms across Gaza through our North and South campaigns, we truly believe these sustainable projects will return dignity and power back to Gaza.
